Amy Sherald: American Sublime is her debut solo show at the Whitney Museum. A long time dream and aspiration, a vision realized by the artist. Amy was selected in 2017 to create a portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama, done in Sherald’s signature grayscale, its part of and will be for many a highlight of the exhibition.
In her works, Amy Sherald captures her sitters who are often friends using extensive styling and photography to then continue to make them into extraordinary portaits capturing everyday Black Americans. The most challenging and moving is a posthumus portrait of Breonna Taylor highlighting the complexity of American identity and its societal systems.
The exhibition is a must see and runs through August 20, 2025
