Such a wonderful afernoon at the recent special viewing of “Basquiat – The Modena Paintings” at the Fondation Beyeler during Art Basel in Switzerland! Especially grateful to Iris Hasler and Chantal Blatzheim for providing an overview of the exhibition. “The Modena Paintings” featuring 8 large paintings by a 21 year old Basquiat, all of which were painted over the span of a few days in Modena, Italy for a solo exhibition that never came to fruition. However, 40 years later, these early career paintings have been reunited and are now publicly displayed together for the first time. The exhibition will be open through August, 27th.
The Basquiat paintings featured include details of “Untitled (Woman with Roman Torso [Venus]) (1982),” “Boy and Dog in a Johnnypump (1982),” “The Guilt of Gold Teeth (1982),” and “The Field Next to the Other Road (1982).”
